Trample-Ground

A vigorous scraping or trampling of the ground following the killing of a person (or other animal?) by an elephant. (145b) This action may also be seen following the birth of a baby. Perhaps in both cases it is to rid the area of the smell of blood that may attract predators. It is not clear whether this is a typical or idiosyncratic response.
